Asking For Help

Why is it that many of us do not ask for help when we need it? The Bible tells us we have not because we ask not (see James 4:2). Maybe we’re not sure how to ask or what to ask for or maybe we’re asking for the wrong thing (see James 4:3).

However, I think asking might run contrary to who we are. We tend to be prideful people and asking for help goes against our prideful nature. I have come to the understanding that I cannot do everything myself and that I am a person in need in so many areas of my life. By reaching this conclusion, I have begun to chisel away at my prideful self and started asking for help. Discovering this for myself is a lot easier than having this discovery forced upon me, which I have experienced before as well.

So today I encourage you to take a truthful look at any area in your life where you are not finding success no matter how hard you are trying and determine; has it been because you have been resisting asking for help. If so, then the next thing to do is humble yourself and go ask. The act of asking for help itself aids us in tearing down our pride. Let’s have a remodeling party today of our inner selves and let’s ask someone for help!

Jesus said to us “Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you:” (Matthew 7:7). Did you realize those three instructions Ask, Seek and Knock when abbreviated equals the word ASK!
